Introduction / Overview
From the early stages, we kept coming back to the same question: What is Condalidad?
Not as a marketing exercise. But as a way of understanding the deeper cultural identity of the place before designing anything.
Rather than building a narrative around hospitality trends or familiar representations of Barcelona, we looked at the history, architecture, craftsmanship and creative culture that have shaped this part of the city for centuries.
Thinking / Development
01/ Context
Located between Las Ramblas and Plaça Reial, Círculo Condal sits within one of Barcelona’s oldest and most culturally layered neighbourhoods.
A place where centuries of craftsmanship, trade, design and public life continue to coexist.
Rather than creating another hotel inspired by Barcelona, we wanted to understand what this particular part of the city has always represented.
Not its landmarks, but its way of creating.
From medieval guilds to contemporary creative studios, it has always been a place where ideas are made. A place of making. Where culture is produced rather than simply consumed.
It became clear that the hotel’s greatest asset was not only its architecture or its location.
It was the cultural landscape surrounding it.
02/ Exploration
What is Condalidad?
Not as nostalgia. But as a living cultural identity that continues to evolve.
The hotel emerged as a contemporary house informed by Barcelona’s long tradition of workshops, craftsmanship and artistic production.
A place that feels lived in rather than designed.
Curated rather than decorated.
Where architecture, materiality, silence and culture become part of the guest experience.
Rather than adding layers, the project focused on revealing what was already there. Leaving space for pause, absence, and the character of the place to emerge.
03/ Design
Translating Culture into Identity
The visual identity follows the same philosophy.
Everything was reduced to its essential expression: simple geometries, modular compositions, considered proportions. White space as a material.
The system builds itself through restraint rather than ornament. An identity that feels quiet, precise, and deliberately leaving space for the guest rather than competing for attention.
Brand Language
Alongside the visual identity, we developed a complete verbal system including the project’s manifesto, narrative framework and messaging.
Rather than describing Barcelona from the outside, the language invites guests to experience it from within.
Together, the visual and verbal identities create a consistent language across every touchpoint, allowing the hotel to communicate with the same clarity and restraint as its architecture.
Contemporary in expression, but rooted in its context.
04/ Afterthought
Barcelona moves continuously.
Círculo Condal offers a counterpoint.
A place of calm within the pulse of the city.
Minimal, yet never empty.
Urban, yet deeply human.
A contemporary house rooted in one of Barcelona’s oldest creative districts.
Where design creates room for stillness.
An identity shaped by history without becoming historical.
One that reflects Barcelona without relying on its clichés.
A place that quietly belongs.
And leaves space for what’s to come.
